Instructors

Our team of instructors bring together a wide range of backgrounds and experiences of the outdoor industry. At your disposal.

Josef Westerlund

Josef is an internationally certified mountain guide (SBO/UIAGM). A product of the Outdoor Academy himself, he has been working in the field since 1999, mainly climbing and downhill skiing in the Nordic countries, the Alps and the USA. Josef holds instructors' certificates in survival skills, avalanche/downhill skiing, paddling and climbing.

Erik Rudels

Erik grew up in the Southwestern archipelago of Finland and now lives in the Åland islands. The water based outdoor activities are close to his heart, as well as the subjets of security, leadership and group dynamics. Erik completed the Outdoor Academy program in 1997-1999. More than a thousand tent nights later he still finds the outdoors more fascinating than ever. He runs his own SGU business, serves as an examination supervisor for NIL Finland and is a board member of Outward Bound Finland.

Carl-Gustaf Gustafsson

Ce-Ge (≈Sae-gae) is our Nordic mountain (fell) expert. He grew up on the hills of the Swedish Vindelfjällen and passed from Storumans Folkhögskola as one of the first students of the Fell Leader program. He has a solid background in the outdoor field, with the Nordic highland areas as his base. He also runs his own small enterprise as a nature photographer and tour leader/instructor for a range of folk high schools and other organisations. Ce-Ge:s responsibilities are the accounts, practical leadership and fell training.

David Nyberg

David developed his strong interest in outdoor activities in his childhood countryside landscape not far from Stockholm in Sweden. He came to perform the Outdoor Academy program in 2007-2009 and has since then been working for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in the USA and in the Nordic countries. David feels at home in all kind of outdoor environments, his heart perhaps beating a little stronger for climbing, skiing and cycling. He is also interested in craft and manufacturing and reparation of outdoor gear.

Kaisa Härkönen

Kaisa comes from the Eastern parts of Finland and she always loved to be on the move in nature. Looking for the ultimate snowboarding conditions she headed for Lapland and became a trained sports instructor with special emphasis on outdoor and adventure. She gained working experience from raindeer farms, as a snowboard instructor and climbing instructor. The passion for outdoor activities led to competing on high level in mountain biking and above all freeride snowboarding.

At the Outdoor Academy you will also meet other instructors with different specialties.
